BOOK LISTS               

The Barton County Library does not necessarily recommend that all teens read all books. These book lists offer a balance in reading level, interest level, and types of fiction. We encourage parents to read and discuss these books with their teens.

The Gateway Readers Awards are sponsored by MASL (Missouri Association of School Librarians). The winner of the Gateway Readers Award is selected by students in grades nine through twelve.

The YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association) lists include book awards such as the Michael L. Printz Award, Popular paperbacks for Young Adults, Quick Picks for Relunctant Young Adult Readers, and more.

The purpose of the Mark Twain Award is to provide children of Missouri with a recommended reading list of literature that will enrich their lives.

Books should interest children in grades four through six.

The Truman Readers Award encourages students in the early teen years to express their unique voice through exploring new literary genres, communicating with their peers about young adult literature, and honoring authors writing for young teens.
